Single-row deep groove ball bearings have deep groove raceways on both inner and outer rings. The deep groove raceway, plus the excellent fit between the raceway and the steel ball, enables this type of bearing to withstand a certain bidirectional axial load while bearing radial loads. When the radial clearance of the bearing is appropriately increased, the ability to withstand axial loads is increased, so it can sometimes be used to replace high-speed angular contact ball bearings.
